Genesis has revealed its new 2021 G70 Shooting Brake, the company’s first model targeted at the European market after the company’s announcement of plans to expand into Europe – starting with the UK, Germany, and Switzerland – during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer.

Based on the facelifted G70 sedan revealed last year, the shooting brake body style – which is one Genesis notes as being “firmly rooted in European automotive history and favoured by customers in the premium luxury segment” – aims to offer additional practicality while embodying the marque’s design philosophy of Athletic Elegance.

With the company keen to offer a bespoke product for the European market as a sign of its commitment to the region, the G70 Shooting Brake won’t be offered in one of the brand’s primary markets – the USA. However, given the model’s will enter right-hand drive production for the UK market, it is set to be brought to Australia as well.

A rival to the likes of the Audi A4 Avant, BMW 3 Series Touring, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class wagon, the G70 Shooting Brake offers a cargo area 40 percent larger than the sedan’s despite measuring in at the same 4685mm in length and 1850mm in width, and with it still sat on the same 2835mm wheelbase.

Luggage space has been maximised by moving the tailgate hinges further forward, while the rear seat offers a versatile 40:20:40 split configuration which is ideal for carrying items such as skis with only the centre section folded down.

Inside, much of the interior is a carry-over from the pre-facelift G70 sedan, although a new digital gauge cluster and larger infotainment screen with a new operating system have been added to spruce things up.

Although powertrain details are yet to be finalised, it’s believed that the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder (with a slight power boost) and 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 (with the same 272kW) petrol engines from the pre-update G70 will be carried over to the shooting brake, with all-wheel drive set to be made available on certain models as well.

The G70 Shooting Brake is due to touch down in Australia in Q3 2021, with exact European launch timing yet to be confirmed.
